Product information "Garden Deal: an exotic Christmas tree"

The Japanese umbrella pine (Sciadopitys verticillata) with impressive its needles is our Garden Deal this week – and we are offering this tree at 30% off! Due to its fleshy, long needles, this umbrella pine looks very exotic and noble. The branches grow horizontally and the needles stand out like umbrellas, which is probably how it got its name. The Japanese umbrella pine originally grows in the cloud forests of Japan – but it is currently on the red list of endangered trees – and now you have the unique opportunity to save such a tree! Sciadopitys verticillata can be grown with one or more stems; it grows very slowly and therefore finds its place in any small garden or balcony. It loves a boggy, moist soil and is winter hardy without any problems. Only in the first few years we recommend applying a thick layer of mulch or leaves over the root ball in order to prevent the roots from freezing.

This Deal includes one plant in a red, 7.5 L decorative pot – the offer is valid as long as the supply lasts.

Our tip: Japanese umbrella fir is ideal for planting in the garden. It can be decorated anew every year and brings Christmas spirit into your garden. For very calcareous soils, we recommend adding a small amount of our Fruitful Soil No. 3.

  • Available February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November

Japonese umberella pine (Sarah Dagnall)

How big is the plant supplied from the top of the soil in the pot to the top of the tree. What is the ultimate height and spread when fully grown and how long will it take to get to that height? Thanks
