Lubera stops plant deliveries to the UK
Due to Brexit, we are not able to deliver to the UK. We are working on a solution on how we can continue to bring a wide range of Lubera plants to the UK and directly to our customers' homes in the future. However, such a solution will not be available before 2022 or 2023.

The basic principle behind the Lubera packaging: The right packaging for each plant

We at Lubera sell plants in garden centre size and quality. Thanks to our own production facilities, the plants are also often fresher than in retail businesses. However, it is crucial that the plants are carefully packed. The packaging is also the basis for safe transport, for transport security. Unlike many classical shippers, we do not fit the plant to the packaging (e.g. by easy to pack, very small plants), but instead we have developed the right packaging for each plant and plant size.

Our partner: DPD

We ship to England with our proven partner DPD. The packages will arrive in 2-3 days. Since the pots themselves are packed with plastic, which helps retain the moisture, the plants will be delivered to you in good condition, even during the growing season.

Additional packaging for small and soft plants

Of course we also ship small and very demanding, soft plants such as strawberries and some types of perennials. We use individual additional packaging for these plants that gently wraps around the plants (so-called blister packs); the plants are then packed in boxes and stabilised.

Transport of very large plants and of very large orders

We have found a very flexible solution for very large plants such as semi-standard fruit trees or large figs in 14 L containers. This is also used for many large orders over 200-300 pounds. The plants are placed on a pallet or half pallet, it is shrink-wrapped and then it’s sent on its way to you.

The Lubera full packaging

We pack and ship 80 % of our plants with the Lubera full packaging. This packaging solution that we developed ourselves has the following advantages:

1. All of the pots and root balls are packed into a lightweight plastic bag. This is how we prevent the soil from falling out or the pots from losing too much moisture, which would make the packaging soft. The plastic bags also enable the plants’ roots to maintain their moisture.

2. For almost every pot size and plant there is a special box size that closely encompasses the pot, thus avoiding damage in transit. You can see in the picture below just how the plants fit into the box.

3. Additional inside boxes ensure that the plant cannot move and that the shoots are protected. The packaging material consists of 95 % cardboard and can be easily recycled.

4. Depending on the size of the boxes and the DPD packing requirements, several packages for the same customer are bound together and shipped together. However, it may also be that your order arrives in multiple packages. But for one delivery – regardless of the number of plants and packages – you only pay the transportation costs once.

How do I receive the plants? Do I have to be home?

Do I have to be at home when the plants arrive? We get asked this question very often. Our answer: No, you do not need to be home! Exactly for this reason we deliver our plants and garden items without a signature. This means that if you are not at home, the package will still be delivered to you. Indeed, there is nothing more annoying for customers to have to track down non-delivered packages. Our experience from hundreds of thousands of shipments shows that plants do not get stolen. Nevertheless, should a package get lost and cannot be delivered, it will be replaced without complaint by us.

What do I do with the plants once they arrive?

As mentioned, you will receive the plants within 48-72 hours after you ordered them. In 3-5 % of the cases, the delivery can sometimes take up to four days. Even during the growing season, our plants can survive this time frame and will stay green. We package the root ball in plastic so that the moisture can be maintained.

But of course you should unpack the plants as soon as possible in order to control the number and quality. If you come across any problems, take a picture immediately and contact our customer service:

Please remember: The plants have not seen sunlight for more than 50 hours and they have to get used to the light again. It is best to give them some water and place them in a shady location. They will already look completely fresh again after 2-4 hours! (This precaution is of course not necessary outside of the growing season, i.e. from October to December and from March to April).

When will the plants arrive and how will I be informed about the transport?

We get asked this question a lot. Here’s our answer: Of course it is best if you or a family member is at home. Yes, you will receive an email message once the shipment has been handed over to DPD; this will allow you to track your shipment as to see when the plants will be delivered to you. If you won’t be home, it’s not the end of the world. The driver will try to leave the plants at a neighbor’s house (it’s always good to inform them in advance) or in the worst case, you will receive a notification of the delivery attempt and can then arrange a new delivery attempt with DPD.

How much does the delivery cost?

The shipment (regardless of how many plants and how many packages) costs exactly £ 4.95. For some areas we have to make exceptions and you will have to pay a supplementary delivery charge of £ 20.00. You will be notified of us before the contract of sale comes into force. More information can be found under "delivery areas".
