Plants per square meter: 6-8 piecesThe Japanese spindle Euonymus japonicus 'Mareike' has thick shoots and grows upright, about 40 cm high. When not pruned, this evergreen woody plant may even grow up to 1.80 m high.
Very large, oval, leathery leaves and their dark green centre provide colourful accents in combination with the wide, yellow border.
Since the undemanding plants are hardy only conditionally, they are more suitable for bowl plantings or as balcony plants. They tolerate pruning well and can be trained as a hedge or bed enclosure. They are not suitable for permanent plantings.
