Product information "Redini® Cuckoo - Columnar Apple"

How - the devil - can a variety of apple be called Cuckoo? Well, because the variety was foisted upon us during breeding; it appeared where it was not planned and intended. But the variety has it all: it is the world's first, very tasty, red-fleshed and red-flowering columnar apple that is also tolerant to scab.
Appearance: 80-100% of the outside skin is dark red; it has pinkish red flesh; a round shape, slightly flat; the fruit size is small to medium
Flowers: Average flowering period, a red-fleshed variety with pink flowers
Texture/firmness: Firm apple, rather fine-celled, hard and crisp
Flavour: Reminiscent of Redlove® Era: sour, fresh with a berry flavour, still backed by subtle sweetness
Habit: Compactly columnar, with the same habit like Dulcessa® and Fresco®, i.e. with slightly larger internodes, which prevents biennial bearing and leads to regular yields; cut back the side shoots that sometimes develop at the end of last year's shoots to 15-20 cm in July
Harvest/maturity: Mid-September, ready to eat starting in October
  • Flowering Period April, May
  • Ripeness/Harvest Period August, September, October
  • Final height 2m to 3m
  • Final width 60cm to 80cm
  • Available February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November
  • Plant Type deciduous
  • Sweetness sweet/sour
  • Use outdoors, greenhouses/winter gardens, for containers, South- and West-facing walls, as a specimen plant
  • Hardiness hardy
  • Soil moist, dry, heavy, moderately heavy, light, slightly alkaline, neutral, slightly acidic
  • Location partial shade, full sun
  • Flower Colour red, pink
  • Leaf Colour green
  • Lubera Easy Tip Based on our experience in the variety tests but also in customer service, we have awarded this plant with the title “Lubera Easy Tip”. With this designation, we emphasise only those plants that according to our experience work (almost) everywhere; they are easy to grow and bear fruits or produce flowers quickly and without problems. These are plants that can be enjoyed immediately and without effort once planted.
  • Lubera Breeding This plant was bred by Lubera in Switzerland and placed on the market after extensive testing at our facilities in Buchs (CH) and Bad Zwischenahn (D). In 20 years of work, Lubera's founder and breeder Markus Kobelt has bred more than 80 of his own new varieties for the home garden; they all have the goal of providing you, our customers, with more experience and flavour, easier growing and more resistant, more robust varieties.
