Product information "Japanese Ornamental Apple"

Light pink, almost white flowers on long stems characterise the Japanese ornamental apple. The pea-sized, red fruits are a beautiful decoration until October.
It’s not only the Japanese cherry blossom that can be seen

The Japanese ornamental apple is a magnificent shrub or small tree with a height of approximately 5 m. The crown is wide-spreading, closely branched and has overhanging shoots. In contrast to many other ornamental apples this form is not a breeding but a wild form, which was introduced from Japan already in the 19th century. Japan is known for overwhelming cherry blossoms, but the blossom of this Japanese ornamental apple can also be seen! In May, also around the same time as the cherry blossoms, the Japanese wild apple blooms. The buds are initially strongly pink-coloured, but the flowers are light pink, almost white. The individual flowers sit on up to 5 cm long stems and have a size of about 4.5 cm. The petals are simply arranged, which means it is not a double-bloomed variety. The flowers appear only shortly after the leaves; they are well visible through the small leaves. The Japanese ornamental apple is popular with bees due to the huge supply of pollen. And for fruit growers, wild or ornamental apples are often planted in orchards to ensure the pollination of the apples.
Popular for decorations
The large flowers turn into pea-sized, reddish fruits in late summer. The fruits remain on the plant until October and make for beautiful decoration. Both the flowers and the fruits can be used wonderfully for indoor arrangements.
Resistant to scab

In the autumn, this ornamental apple obtains an attractive, orange autumn colour. Malus floribunda is tolerant/resistant to apple scab and was very intensively used in the breeding of the cultivated apple in the 20th century.
A sunny or partially shaded location should be selected. No special requirements are placed on the soil, however it should be nutritious and not be too dry. Regular thinning out of the crown in early spring can continuously rejuvenate the plant. But don’t worry: if you once forget to prune, this is not an end of the world, Malus floribunda will still develop well.
The Japanese ornamental apple is one of the best and most beautiful ornamental apples during flowering and therefore a solitary planting is recommended.
