Product information "Malus 'Pomzai'"

Dwarf Ornamental Apple, Bonsai Apple 'Pomzai'
The bonsai apple 'Pomzai' is a small star among the ornamental apples. Its red flowers are impressive, but they fade visibly. The orange fruits hold up into the winter and they are very attractive in autumn with the orange autumn colouring.

A dwarf among the ornamental apples

A real dwarf among the ornamental apples is the ornamental apple 'Pomzai'. It is only about 1.5 m high and 1 m wide. The name Pomzai represents an imaginative word combination from Pomme, the French word for apple and bonsai. Unlike the plants from the proper bonsai art, the bonsai apple also remains at a moderate height without coercive measures.

The most healthy ornamental apple

This small ornamental apple forms lush, red flowers in May and with an increasing age of the flowers, the petals fade and are ultimately light pink. The flowering branches, which are already cut before flowering, bloom wonderfully in vases. After flowering, small, orange fruits appear that remain on the plant as winter decoration. The fruit can also be used for decorative purposes. In autumn, a wonderful, orange autumn colour appears. Malus 'Pomzai' not only grows very compact and is thus suitable for the smallest gardens and containers; this variety also proves to be very healthy. It is in fact one of the most healthy ornamental apple varieties. It is very resistant to powdery mildew, scab and blight.

Also for pots

It is best to choose a sunny or partially shaded location and no special requirements are placed on the soil. If the plant is kept as a potted plant, the pot should have a volume of at least 40 L. Pruning is hardly necessary, but in the late winter, when the last fruits have fallen off, individual, old shoots can be removed in the interior of the crown. Thus, the bonsai apple is continually rejuvenated.
The dwarf 'Pomzai' is particularly suitable in a perennial bed, combined with low-growing perennials. It can also be grown well in pots in an elevated or prominent spot. This ornamental apple can also be combined with Lubera’s Maloni fruit trees. The growth height of these apple trees corresponds approximately to the growth height of the ornamental apple 'Pomzai'.
