Product information "Ornamental Apple 'Eleyi'"

This ornamental apple is not only pink, but also the leaves are reddish. The dark red fruits are large and can be processed into marmalade.

Red leaves and bright orange autumn colouration

'Eleyi' is a pink-flowering variety, the leaves are reddish at bud break, then they turn reddish brown and take on a dark green colour in the summer. In autumn, they shine in a bright orange tone. A large amount of flowers appear at the beginning to end of May. They are simple, dark pink and are up to 4 cm in diameter. During the flowering period, the flowers are very impressive. Many bees are attracted by the pollen, which is also a reason why the ornamental apple is often planted with apple trees, since they ensure a better pollination of the apples by means of their huge amount of pollen.

Large, edible apples

The fruits are about 2.5 cm tall, round and dark red. They remain on the plant until October and they are unfortunately somewhat susceptible to scab. Since the fruits have a relatively large amount of flesh, they are also very edible; the flavour is relatively sweet and they are also good for making marmalade.

By means of appropriate pruning measures, Malus Hybrid 'Eleyi' can also be kept smaller. Suitable cutting measures include the removal of old and thick shoots in the interior of the crown. This can be done in early spring. The location should be sunny or partially shaded with humus, medium heavy soil with an acidic to neutral pH value.

Most suitable for solitary plantings

Due to the striking flowers of ornamental apples, they are particularly suitable as individual planting or for small groups. The branches can be cut before flowering and they continue to bloom in the vase; in autumn, the apples are a beautiful addition to floral arrangements.
