Product information "Apple Paradis® The Forbidden Apple"

The 'Forbidden Apple' has it in itself in the true sense of the word: it is small to medium, round, rather flat; 40 - 60% friendly red-coloured, the rest is bright yellow, also when on the tree, not just starting at maturity. The friendliest apple since there has ever been apples. In the last years, we have called this apple ‘Smiley’.

In test trials we found that The 'Forbidden Apple' is always the one that is taken first in a selection of five varieties. It is also resistant to scab with medium strong to strong growth; it has a well-branched habit and regular, high yields. The name “Forbidden Apple”, of course, refers first of all to the paradise story, to the temptation of the apples. But really only incidentally. Actually, the name is a clear and unambiguous description. This apple is forbidden. No joke! And that is why we sell it!

How did this happen? Since 1 January 2017 new apple varieties (and new varieties of other important fruit species) must be registered (or at least declared) in an official list if they are to be marketed (the technocrats call this sale and distribution) And, of course, the corresponding examination costs a lot of money, so much money that the productivity and creativity of the niche cultivation is impaired. When we informed ourselves about this rule and pointed out the counterproductive effects, Berlin and other colleagues everywhere just shook his shoulders: What’s the point? It is like it is and one must accept it, the EU, Brussels, etc.
Of course we adhere to the new regulation, we are indeed an economic enterprise - and not a Don Quijote show. But with this variety, the 'Forbidden Apple' we are not bending for the time being; we remain exemplary stubborn. It is, so to speak, a protest apple! It is not registered, we do not have any trademark protection, no variety protection and we give everyone interested in it the opportunity to propagate it and sell it freely. It is free, as free as we want to be! Let's see how this goes…
