Product information "Aromatic Peach Veroma® Pico"

If you approach our Veroma® Pico trees in the testing field during the harvest season, in mid-to late August, you can hardly believe your eyes: how can a relatively compact peach tree bear so many fruits, nourish them and provide them with enough sugar and flavour? The day of truth comes then with the maturity towards the end of August: the Veroma® peaches remain relatively small with a diameter of 5-7 cm; they are only about 1/3 red-coloured (on the outside) and the flesh looks at first glance like something sour and green – but this flavour! It's like experiencing the typical peach flavour times two. You can also feel the slight bitterness in the background, which can go hand in hand with the peach aroma and which you also know from many vineyard peaches. But here with Veroma® Pico, this slight bitterness is quite rounded and well covered up with sweetness. In any case, I've never eaten more aromatic peaches than the group of Veroma® peaches. Veroma® Pico seems to be slightly juicier than Bello.

Benefits of the aromatic peach Veroma® Pico:

  • An intense peach aroma
  • Extremely hardy and tolerant to leaf curl
  • Healthy, bushy, relatively compact habit
  • Beautiful, pink flowers

Origin

Veroma® peaches are bred by Lubera from crosses between Prunus mira, the Tibetan peach and peach cultivars that are resistant to leaf curl. The seedlings (Prunus mira x Prunus persica) maintain the robustness, including the cold tolerance of Prunus mira, the Tibetan peach, which grows at altitudes of up to 3000 m in the region of origin at the foot of the Himalayas. However, they do gain some fruit size from the cultivars, but especially juiciness and sweetness. The aroma is strongly influenced by the Tibetan original peach Prunus mira.
