What does leaf curl tolerant mean?
Unfortunately, there is no resistance, no immunity against leaf curl. I repeat: none! And at the same time the disease pressure seems to increase...We have now selected so-called leaf curl tolerant varieties for our assortment. What does this mean "leaf curl tolerant"? Sooner or later, all of these varieties also develop leaf curl at most locations; unfortunately the disease is too widespread. But as a rule and in our trials, the infestation is lower. The biggest difference to normal varieties, however, is that they recover faster and outgrow the leaf curl, so to speak, much faster than comparable varieties. At Lubera we continue to test new peach varieties for tolerance and have already made crosses to achieve better resistance.

What can be done against leaf curl in addition to planting varieties that are as tolerant as possible?

  • Plant in as dry a location as possible
  • Spray preventively in February before the buds swell; this is still the easiest and most effective method!
  • Remove and dispose of infested leaves
  • Strengthen and fertilise infested trees so that they outgrow the disease.
  • Use plant boosters
