Product information "Kiwi Minkigold®"

A female, fruit-bearing kiwi, needs the variety Minimale® as a pollinator.
The “gold kiwi” from the motherland of kiwi cultivation, and meanwhile also from other growing regions, has been enriching the fruit sections of supermarkets for about a decade. But as garden plants, they have prevailed only a little so far; this is due to the fact that the existing varieties usually only had unhealthy growth with leaves that became chlorotic fast. With Minkigold® we have now found a variety that is also suitable for the home garden and produces good, regular growth and harvest results. It is also positive to note that the start of harvest for Minkigold® usually occurs relatively quickly after 2 to 4 years. This may also be related to the fact that we have consistently propagated our Minkigold® young plants via cuttings (not by in vitro propagation). Note: when planting Minkigold®, always plant the pollinating variety Minkimale® together with it, which has the same flowering period.

Maturity: October-November
Fruits: Round, 4-7 cm large, brown, hairy fruit; the flesh is white-gold coloured
Taste: Very juicy, aromatic, with a fragrance of apple
Yield: Very fast and early start of harvest after 2-4 years, high yields
Growth/health: Strong healthy growth, similar to Hayward; unlike other yellow varieties, this variety has healthy growth and no chlorotic, yellow leaves
Note: This variety requires a pollinator; Minkimale must be planted

Tips

Allow young kiwi plants to grow from the start...do not prune them!   The classic kiwi with the hairy fruits and big, beautiful leaves should be pruned as little as possible in the first few years. It should be able to grow naturally...this is the only way that it can emerge from its juvenile, adolescent phase in a reasonable time. It was only then that they - as a kind of adult plant - are able to form flowers and fruits. Early and strong pruning, on the other hand, “artificially” keeps the young kiwi plants in the juvenile stage. Incidentally, this is a major reason for the sometimes very long wait before a kiwi plant will produce a yield.

Pollinatino (Martin Kunz )

I have a Kiwi Matua (male) from Haeberli - will it pollinate/go with Kiwi Minkigold? Haeberli says Matua fertilizes deliciosa, chinensis, and arguta - but your website does not give the species of kiwi on offer. What others would 'go with' Matua?
