Product information "Dwarf Mulberry 'Mojo Berry'"

The mulberry 'Mojo Berry' is a breakthrough in mulberry breeding. It combines many properties that are necessary for the use of mulberries in a modern garden or on a balcony. The dwarf mulberry, for example, bears fruit on very young plants; it remains quite compact and bears fruit on both last year's and this year's shoots. Therefore, the small, very tasty fruits can be harvested over a very long period from about June to September.

Advantages of the mulberry 'Mojo Berry'
  • Compact growth; it hardly grows higher than 150 cm and is therefore ideal as a container plant or for smaller gardens
  • It bears fruit on last year's and this year's wood and therefore has a very long harvest period
  • Good winter hardiness down to -15 degrees Celsius
  • Very sweet, smaller mulberries, already on young plants

Growth of the dwarf mulberry 'Mojo Berry'
'Mojo Berry' grows as a compact shrub or small tree. In about five years it will reach a height of approx. 1.5 m, but it can also be kept bushier and more compact by pruning. 'Mojo Berry' can be cut back a little before budding in March, which promotes branching.

Requirements of the mulberry 'Mojo Berry'
The dwarf mulberry 'Mojo Berry' needs a warm location in full sun. It is also important to have a good supply of water and nutrients. When growing the plant in a container, make sure that it is well drained in the pot, as the mulberry does not tolerate waterlogging. In addition, the pot should be packed with insulating material in the winter in order to prevent the root ball from freezing through. Planted out in the garden, 'Mojo Berry' will survive down to about -15 degrees Celsius unprotected. If it should get colder, we recommend applying a light winter protection of leaves or brushwood.

Fertilising 'Mojo Berry'
In March, 20 g of slow release fertiliser (Frutilizer® Seasonal Fertiliser Plus) should be applied per 5 L soil volume when planted in a container. When planted outdoors, about 100 g of Frutilizer® Compound Fertiliser Plus should be added per mulberry in March and June. With established plants, this fertilisation measure can also be reduced.
