Product information "Pear Saxonia Gerburg"
A large pear. Large and very good. But it must be dealt with like any good pear and be properly prepared. First, in the garden: It should be able to grow well and spread itself out a bit. The tying work of the gardener ensures that the branches grow to a 30 % horizontal angle. Then, from the third year on, fruits can be harvested. The pears should be picked carefully and placed in single layers in crates. Starting in November, they can gradually be brought to the fruit bowl where they ripen together with apples and bananas. To check the ripeness of the pears, apply gentle pressure to the neck of the pear with your thumb. If it yields to pressure, it’s ripe. Then cut it with a sharp knife; it will be glossy due to the sugary juice; it will have a sweet taste in your mouth and the flavour will reach your nose...this happens after every cut, for every pear.Harvest: Early October
Maturity: December; until February if stored cool
Fruit: Very large, (up to 300 g), belly-shaped, green-red at the harvest; red-yellow at maturity
Taste: Firm, juicy when mature with an intense flavour
Growth/health: Slightly susceptible to scab; strong, broad pyramidal growth
