Product information "Kaki 'Early Fuyu'"

Fuju or Fuyu, also known as Fuyugaki, is the world's most widely grown type of kaki. It brings exactly the characteristics that consumers prefer with kaki: absolutely no astringency, no bitterness, a crisp, firm texture, good sweetness and a beautiful, yellow-orange colour. With 'Early Fuyu', we have selected a variety that will mature much earlier and thus better fit into our climate in Switzerland, Austria and Germany. It can be harvested in October and can then be enjoyed firm and crisp. Note: if left on the tree for too long, until the end of November, it will also be soft as the variety 'Aroma'. The fruit of the 'Early Fuyu' variety is excellent for fresh consumption and suitable for use in the kitchen; it has a sweet aroma and is crisp like an apple. It is absolutely not astringent and keeps well in storage. Like most kaki, 'Early Fuyu' has only feminine flowers and sets most fruits without pollination (parthenocarpic). This property is so pronounced that it results in very large and, above all, independent yields due to the pollination mechanisms and from the male flowers and trees.
Maturity: Still in October, the earliest of the crunchy varieties
Flowers: May, but 'Early Fuyu' gets parthenocarpic fruits, without pollination
Fruits: Medium large, round, when they are ready to be picked they turn a reddish orange colour; very sweet and crisp like an apple
Use: Fresh consumption, decorative on plates thanks to the brilliant colour, an infinite number of recipes
Growth/space requirement: Robust, hardy to -17° Celsius; height: approx. 2 - 3 m, 1.5 m wide, very compact growing, suitable for every garden; bears fruit from the 2nd or 3rd year in the garden
Pollination: 'Early Fuyu' is a plant with female flowers, also bears enough fruit without pollination
