Product information "Robusticot® Promessa di Giugno"

When the early maturing Robusticot®Promessa di Giugno are ripe at the beginning of June, the tree hangs full of small, yellow-red plums and one expects to be able to harvest ripe fruits immediately...But upon closer inspection and using the thumb pressure test the fruit proves not to be quite ripe week by week. And then suddenly it turns dark red to violet very fast – and at the same time finally matures. The fruit size is a bit smaller than the other Robusticots® (20 g plus), similar in size to a gigantic cherry or a small plum. But the association of the plum (which comes up first due to the round shape, the colour and the size) is deceptive: at a closer look, the fruit skin is not smooth and glossy, but it has very fine hairs, giving a total velvet impression – which is actually the same as the apricot, only that the fruit colour is much darker. At the top of the fruit you can also see a fruit groove in some fruits, as is common with apricots, but overall the round shape dominates.

What does a Robusticot® Promessa di Giugno taste like?

For such an early fruit, the aroma is intense and excellent: the aroma and the fragrance are initially reminiscent mainly of an apricot, while the aftertaste is fresh and fruity, also a bit green like a plum or cherry plum. Ultimately, both parents are represented regarding the taste.

Breeding and origin

The Robusticot® Promessa di Giugno was bred by Lubera® – from seedlings of Eastern European black apricots that had freely faded. Among the selections from these seedling populations, Promessa di Giugno is the selection with the brightest, reddest colour. We have selected this variety among the siblings that mature at the same time because it has a slightly lighter colour and because the yield is by far the highest among varieties that ripen the earliest. We were also fascinated by the tasteful mix between plum and apricot.

Use and enjoyment

Of course, Promessa di Giugno can also be made into all sorts of jams and jellies. For me, this early Robusticot® (as well as the other varieties) is the snack fruit par excellence; I eat it like a cherry: I put in entirely in my mouth, bite the flesh, suck and enjoy, and then spit out the pit, which is also pleasantly small.

Short description of the Robusticot® Promessa die Giugno

Harvest: End of June, our earliest variety
Fruits: Roundish, the apricot-typical groove is visible only in batches at the top of the fruit, dark red to purple, 20 g and a little more
Flavour: First reminiscent of apricot, then a fresh, fruity aftertaste reminiscent of plum
Growth/health: Beautiful, branched growth, the shoots and leaves are reminiscent of apricots, very healthy
Pollination: We recommend planting two varieties for more yield, so together with the later ripening varieties Vesuviana rossa and Campanere; pollination with apricots is also possible; the flowering period overlaps, but Robusticots® bloom a little later.
