Product information "Robustikose® Campanere"

Thanks to the Robustikose® Campanere, which does not mature until the end of August, the new Robustikosen® fruit variety has a ripening period that lasts almost three months. So if you grow Promessa, Vesuviana and Campanere at home, you will be able to harvest these wonderful snack fruits for three months...

The Robustikose® Campanere takes the lon
gest to mature, and therefore has much to offer in many ways: the colour is the darkest, the yield is gigantic and at maturity, the entire tree hangs full of black, bell-like fruits, which in turn are grouped together, making them look almost like grapes. We have chosen the name to exactly fit the description of this fruit yield: “Campana” is Italian for bell, “campanile” means bell tower, and then – desperately looking for a suitable name – we came up with Campanere...

Like the other Robustikosen®, Campanere is characterised by its velvety fruit skin; the aroma is dominated by fruitiness; it is sour and refreshing. It is noticeable that at maturity the flesh is almost completely red. This colouration of the inside of the fruit increases continuously throughout the ripening period, as a whole, and the fruit’s skin gets darker to black-coloured. The flesh also turns more and more dark red.

When is the Robustikose® Campanere ripe?

With the Robustikose® Campanere it is very important to keep your patience, to keep telling yourself, "No, this fruit cannot yet be ripe; it will not mature until the month of August." The quite big, slightly high-built fruits are still very green-coloured in May/early June, so that you hardly recognise them in the thickets of the leaves. They turn yellow in the course of June, later dark red, and then they are almost black when they are ripe. Here it finally evident that Robustikose® Campanere is derived from the Eastern European black apricots...Of course you can also use the thumb test: only when the flesh gives in slightly, the fruit is ripe enough for eating and the full flavour has been released. Another sign of the ripe fruit is obviously the dark colour of the skin and the red colour of the flesh.

The special yield potential of Campanere

The Robustikosen® Campanere has the highest yield potential of all Robustikosen®, as the fruits are usually not hanging individually, but they grow to a kind of cluster, very close together on short and medium-length side shoots...

Short description of Robustikose® Campanere

Harvest: From the middle to the end of August
Fruits: Roundish, slightly tall, sometimes with a slight tip at the top of the fruit, with the most noticeable apricot groove of all Robustikosen®. Beautiful, almost black velvet colouring
Flavour: Fruity and juicy aroma, more dominated by the cherry plum, very slight peach flavour
Growth/health: Beautifully branched growth, the many fruitful lateral shoots of the main branches are striking; here pruning is probably best to ensure rapid rejuvenation; very healthy growth, no fungal diseases and bacteria observed
Pollination: We recommend planting two varieties for more yield, e.g. together with the earlier maturing varieties Promessa di Giugno and Vesuviana rossa; pollination with apricots is also possible.
