Product information "Blackberry 'Columbia Star'"

The new thornless blackberry 'Columbia Star' has been described by its breeder Chad Finn as a "workhorse with star potential." When I first stood in front of this fantastic blackberry variety in Oregon, at Chad Finn's breeding station a few years ago, I couldn't believe my eyes: a wall of purple or already black giant berries, cylindrically long and extremely large overall! With the fruit size of 'Columbia Star' a limit is probably reached that should not be exceeded so quickly: you can eat just one blackberry fruit of 'Columbia Star' at once with a healthy fruit appetite, it doesn't need a second bite...and children will almost certainly eat the fruit. Up to here, that is, up to the size of 'Columbia Star' (7-9 g), the fruit size is still a sign of quality, which means there is more bite, more juice, more contact of the fruit juice with the taste buds, more experience.
Advantages of the hedge blackberry 'Columbia Star':
  •     Gigantic yield of 5-7 kg per plant from the 3rd year of growth
  •     Huge fruits of 6-9 g, which are slightly larger and longer than the varieties 'Bigandearly' and 'The Big Easy'. Most importantly, the single fruits of 'Columbia Star' are finer than those of the Navaho® blackberries. This results in more seeds, but they are somewhat smaller individually than in other blackberry types and are barely noticeable when eaten
  •     Fine, mild blackberry flavour, with no bitter or sour notes at all
  •     Ideal for a beautiful and artistic fruit hedge
  • Flowering Period May
  • Ripeness/Harvest Period July
  • Final height 2m to 3m
  • Final width 60cm to 80cm
  • Available February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November
  • Sweetness sweet
  • Use as a hedge, as a specimen plant
  • Hardiness hardy
  • Soil slightly alkaline, neutral, slightly acidic
  • Location full sun
  • Flower Colour white
  • Leaf Colour green
