Product information "Lagerstroemia 'Rose Indien'"

Lagerstroemia 'Rose India' is an exotic plant for our native gardens. Perhaps you know the plant mainly from hotel complexes in southern Europe, and maybe that's why you associate the plant with holidays...It is therefore great to know that this exotic plant can also thrive in our region, not just in a pot on the terrace, but even planted out Lagerstroemia 'Rose India' does very well under certain conditions.

Pink flowers and a long bloom
But first of all about the appearance: Lagerstroemia 'Rose India' blooms in July and September – just in time for the summer holidays. The pink flowers are in clusters together at the end of the shoots; the individual flowers are small, but they have an elegant appearance due to the wavy petals.

Growth and pruning
Lagerstroemia indica 'Rose India' grows to a height of 2 m and a width of 4 m. With annual pruning – which should absolutely be done in order to stimulate the flowers – this size is hardly achieved. Rather, the height will settle at around 1.5 m and the width will be approx. 2 m. Cut back to 3-5 buds in April. This pruning measure ensures the winter security of the Lagerstroemias in our climate (all new wood should be removed every year), the flowering abundance as well as the compact growth.

A warm, sunny location is desired
How can you now get into the holiday mood in your garden? It should be noted Lagerstroemia 'Rose India' definitely needs a location in full sun, from morning to evening. The site should be well supplied with water, but must not be subject to any waterlogging. In order to stimulate the formation of flowers, the plant needs enough heat. Therefore it is advisable to place the plant against a wall, so it can warm up quickly in the morning – and it benefits from warmer evenings especially in late summer and early autumn.

Hardiness
In the winter, temperatures down to -15°C are tolerated, however it is recommended to protect Lagerstroemia indica 'Rose India' for up to 4 years of age during the winter months using a thick layer of straw around the root area.
