Product information "Clematis 'Cezanne' TM"

This Evison clematis blooms blue, blue, blue. There are actually different blue colours since the flowers brighten slightly during maturity; there are also shades that are slightly towards pink. Whether these iridescent colours inspired the breeder Raymond Evison to name this clematis Cezanne? Anyway, I was amazed at first glance by this colour; however I associate rather bright yellow shades with Cezanne. But of course I googled and immediately realised: the French artist Cezanne also painted quite efficient artwork in blue;-) The many Mont Sainte Victoire paintings are especially striking; the again and again repeated “portraits” of the local mountain in Aix en Provence, have lots of vivid blue. So was it therefore the idea of Cezanne to honour this clematis, or rather inversely to honour the flower with this painter?

We’ll never know…but we do know this: within the compact clematises from Raymond Evison’s breeder workshop this variety is perhaps the one with the most long-lasting bloom. Because that was and is Raymond Evison’s vocation as a breeder, namely from the clematis that in some varieties blooms very early in the spring, another in the early summer and sometimes also in late summer to make a continuous flowering plant with a variety of uses. The clematis hybrid Cezanne grows up to 150 cm high and also does well in containers and pots.  Due to the rich flowering it is one of my favourite varieties for balconies and terraces. Because let's face it: clematis leaves are not spectacular, but the flowers are. And Cezanne offers almost infinitely many throughout the summer. It is - again a parallel - similarly productive as the same painter from southern France. And one last cunning parallel yet: each flower is naturally similar, but again different in the shade: like the countless Mont Sainte Victoire paintings by Paul Cezanne.
I almost forgot: Even with the clematis hybrid Cezanne the new, simple Evison pruning method can may be applied: Cut back in the spring to 15 cm. If you want, pruning some of the longer shoots during a somewhat weaker blooming phase is recommended; the shoots will then branch out quickly and bring more flowers.
