Product information "Umbrella Bamboo 'Ivory Ibis'®"

A bamboo for every location is the umbrella bamboo 'Ivory Ibis'. This bamboo variety can be planted in the sun and shade, in heavy or sandy soils, and also in dry locations. The canes have a lush, green colour and form a wonderful contrast to the ivory-coloured leaves.
A beautiful contrast of canes and foliage

The umbrella bamboo 'Ivory Ibis' is very vigorous; the canes grow up to 4 m high. They have a rich green colour and are relatively thick. The contrast between the canes and the bright, almost ivory-coloured leaves is beautiful. The leaves are dark green and oblong; they stay on the plant throughout the winter and so the bamboo is also an exotic enrichment in the winter. The canes grow very dense and thus are an ideal privacy screen.
A wintergreen privacy screen

Now there may be an objection that bamboo should not even be planted in our region due to the bamboos uncontrollable ability to spread without using a rhizome barrier. Bamboos are divided into different families, which have different characteristics. And one of these features is that fargesias do not form rhizome, but instead grow clump-like, that is, the root ball only grows a few centimeters larger each year.
What distinguishes fargesias

The characteristics of the fargesias are highlighted here:
• No formation of rhizomes, which means that a rhizome barrier is not required
• Extreme winter hardiness, no winter damage occurs down to -25°C
• Dense growth, so they are ideally suited for privacy protection hedges
• Wintergreen foliage; you can’t see through this hedge in the winter

Fargesia murielae 'Ivory Ibis' grows very dense, up to 4 m high and it forms thick stems. Regular pruning allows the height to also be kept very low. In doing so, remove the canes just above ground level or at the desired height. As an added bonus one automatically has a few bamboo canes to use for supporting other plants in the garden or for building a climbing aid.
The umbrella bamboo 'Ivory Ibis' is suitable for any location, it can withstand sun and shade, heavy and sandy soils and even a draughty, cold location cannot harm it. In cold winters, the leaves will curl up for protection, but as soon as the temperatures rise, they will unroll again. In hot regions, a layer of pine bark can be placed at the root area, so that the soil heats up less, which is very good for the bamboo.
No aphids

In addition, this umbrella bamboo is not affected by aphids. This bamboo can be used as a wintergreen screen, since it grows very dense, by the way also on a terrace in a pot. This bamboo is also ideal as a solitary plant, in a bamboo group or in combination with different grasses. When planted in pots, winter protection in the form of an insulating packaging should be used and it should not be too sunny.
