Product information "Umbrella Bamboo 'Superjumbo'®"

What is so great about the bamboo 'Superjumbo'? Here’s the answer: it strong, upright stature and unpretentiousness. Its green stalks grow almost up to 3.5 m high and they are very dense.
Upright growth with slightly drooping tips
The bamboo 'Superjumbo' forms dense clumps, which means that no rhizomes are formed. This saves you the costly introduction of a root barrier. The green canes are vigorous and grow up to 3.5 m high with a width of 2 m; the tips can be slightly overhanging. The leaves have a dark, rich green colour and stay on the plant even in the winter.
Robust and undemanding

This bamboo is very vital and robust, it can be placed in partial shade to shade. For sunny locations, the bamboo 'Superjumbo' is only suitable with reservations; however, with higher humidity – for example in northern Germany or near a body of water – a sunny location is unproblematic. However, if the location is dry and hot, this bamboo tends to curl up its leaves. In addition, it usually grows less strongly in sunny locations than in shady areas. This bamboo is extremely hardy and can withstand temperatures down to -25°C without any problems. The ideal soil for Fargesia murielae 'Superjumbo' is rich in nutrients and permeable. This bamboo is easy to prune; the canes can be cut to the desired height and thus there are always enough bamboo canes for supporting other plants in the garden. If the clump once grow too wide, you can cut out parts and transplant it easily. Not only the old, woody shoots can be used, but the young, delicate sprouts are almost a hallmark of Asian cuisine.
Also possible as a container plant

Due to the dense growth and the wintergreen leaves, this bamboo is ideal for hedge plantings, whether as a free-growing hedge or a formal, cut hedge. The garden bamboo 'Superjumbo' can also be used as a specimen plant or in groups with other bamboos. It is even suitable for a potted planting, but care should be taken to ensure that the roots never dry out completely, whether in the summer or in the winter! In the winter you can water on frost-free days, and the pot should be packed so that the roots do not freeze.
Special flowers

Have you never seen a bamboo blossom? Well, me neither! The bamboo blossom is something very special; it only appears every 80-130 years. Due to the powerful act of flowering the bamboos are so exhausted that they died afterwards. This death after reproduction cannot be counteracted, although one often reads tips such as pruning the plant strongly, removing the flowers and fertilising well. How can you be sure that your bamboo will not bloom immediately? All bamboos within a species will bloom within 10 years, worldwide and regardless of their age and size. Since the last flowering of these bamboos took place just before the turn of the millennium, there will for sure be no flowers for the next 60-80 years.
