Product information "Umbrella Bamboo 'Blue Lizard'®"

The blue umbrella bamboo 'Blue Lizard' forms a dense curtain of growth. The countless canes are bluish-frosted and grow upright. The leaves are conspicuously broad and also slightly blue. This bamboo is suitable for all locations.
A very vigorous variety

The blue umbrella bamboo 'Blue Lizard' is sometimes also known under the name 'Blue Dragon'. The name goes back to the winter green leaves, which have a slightly bluish shimmer. They are also strikingly wide and are reminiscent of the scales of lizards or dragons. The fresh canes are also bluish, but then get darker with increasing age. They form a wonderful colour contrast to the white foliage and the bluish leaves. The growth is very upright and reaches 4 m high, in the width grows the bamboo up to 2m. This variety is extremely vigorous, forming many canes and dense foliage. Like all Fargesia, Fargesia murielae 'Blue Lizard' does not form rhizomes, which means that a rhizome barrier it not necessary.
For all locations and all types of soils

The blue umbrella bamboo 'Blue Lizard' is very undemanding; it grows in all soils and locations. A big advantage is that this bamboo also develops in sunny locations into a wonderful plant; only in very hot months it can happen that individual leaves start to curl. Even heavy and chalky soils are easily tolerated. Since the umbrella bamboo 'Blue Lizard' is hardy down to -29°C, it also recommended for very cold areas.

Caring for this bamboo is very uncomplicated; in hot regions, a 5 cm thick layer of pine bark can be applied, so that the soil heats up less quickly and the symptoms of dryness can be counteracted. If you want to prune the bamboo, you can easily cut the canes just above the ground or cut them back to the desired height – and thus automatically get free bamboo canes for your gardening work! In the case of a hedge planting, pruning can also be carried out using hedge trimmers. If the bamboo is too wide, simply dig out a piece, cut it back and translate it elsewhere or give it away.
A dense privacy screen

Due to the dense foliage and the numerous canes, Fargesia murielae 'Blue Lizard' can be used as a privacy screen. In a mixed bamboo hedge, the bluish leaves look fresh and loosen the hedge optically. Due to the dense, broad vegetation, few plants are necessary for a creating a dense hedge. As a solitary plant, this bamboo is also outstanding, as it can be used well in every location and it is very attractive in combination with green-leaved plants. Fargesia 'Blue Lizard' can even be used in pots, but in the winter one must pay attention to a sufficient water supply and the pot must never completely freeze.
