This unique clematis was already bred in England at the beginning of the 20th century. It forms 4 to 6 cm large, white flowers. These consist of 4 petals with slightly wavy edges. The specialty of this clematis is its scent: an intense, delicious chocolate flavour.
Clematis montana Wilsonii wants to climb high with heights of 7 to 10 m. Since it blooms on the old shoots and does not have to be pruned, it can easily grow into trees. The luminous white has a good effect from a distance and lightens dark garden areas effectively. Old fruit trees or conifers, such as pines and yews, offer good climbing aids. But also long walls or fences can be enchanted with this fragrant clematis.
Regarding the location, this vital, hardy clematis is not selective – it thrives in sun and partial shade. It is not suitable for pots and planters at all. For this, choose the compact clematis varieties that are tolerant to pruning.
