This deciduous, medium strong clematis is 2-3 m high. The light purple, double flowers appear profusely and delight garden enthusiasts from July to September. In September, the 10 cm flowers are single.
Clematis ‘Vyvyan Pennell’ has a high ornamental value and has been declared by the majority of major clematis growers and breeders as the best double bloomer in the clematis world. It is suitable for pergolas and trellises; it can also climb into small trees or be combined with rambler roses. Sometimes referred to as the “Queen of the Vines”, it prefers a sunny to partially shady location. Slight pruning is recommended in the spring.
Clematis like fresh, humus-rich soil, as they are originally forest dwellers. They are flat rooted and prefer a constant temperature and soil moisture. A layer of mulch provides good results. Clematis are rich-flowering in ideal locations.
