Product information "Clematis 'Maidwell Hall'"

This magical variety was bred in England in the 1950s. The semi-double flowers are about 4 to 6 cm in size. With the nice, nodding form of the flowers, the plants look very graceful. The flowers are medium blue and are lighter towards the centre. The decorative stamens are cream yellow coloured.
Clematis macropetala 'Maidwell Hall' is very rich-flowered. Its main flowering season is from April to May. In the late summer, more single flowers follow.
With 200 to 300 cm this clematis grows compact. It climbs fences, walls, obelisks and trellises and turns them into a blue sea of flowers in the spring. In natural gardens they can also grow "wildly" into trees or shrubs. The graceful flowers look very beautiful in combination with bulbs and early flowering perennials.
Clematis macropetala 'Maidwell Hall' thrives in sunny and semi-shady locations. It prefers well-drained soil. This variety does not tolerate waterlogging at all. For this purpose, it is, in contrast to most other clematis varieties, very tolerant to dryness.
The bud formation takes place on the old shoots. Therefore, you should let 'Maidwell Hall' grow and not cut it back regularly. If after a few years this clematis becomes bare and does not bloom as luxuriantly, we recommend a one time, rigorous pruning in June, right after the main flowering period.
