Pinus mugo 'Pumilio' is a very compact growing dwarf conifer with a more or less creeping habit. It is a useful, slow growing evergreen with dark green needles that appear in bundles of two. It reaches a height of 60 cm and a width of up to 1.5 m. 'Pumilio' grows best in moist, well-drained, nutrient-rich soils in full sun to light shade. It is very hardy and generally tolerant of urban conditions. This is a relatively low maintenance shrub and pruning of this slow-growing form is rarely needed. This pine is considered to be drought tolerant and is ideal for rock gardens, mass plantings and in groupings with broadleaf plants. It also makes a great container specimen.
