Product information "Dwarf Mountain Pine 'Mops'"
Pinus mugo 'Mops' is a slow-growing evergreen conifer that has a bushy, rounded habit with slender, paired, dark green needles. It is frost hardy and has prominent, brown winter buds. It grows best in full sun and reaches a maximum height of 80 cm.Mugo pines are one of the most popular dwarf conifers for growing in both cold and milder climates. They are among the top-selling pines in the landscape industry. Conifers generally prefer a slightly acidic soil; if the soil is too alkaline, the plants may turn a bit yellow. They will need watering regularly until they are established or if they are subject to a prolonged dry spell. Otherwise, they are easy to care for; they only require full sun and well-drained soil.
Also known as mountain pine, Swiss mountain pine and dwarf mountain pine, Mugo pines (Pinus mugo) tolerate windy sites, which make them ideal for coastal gardens. Pruning should be done on annually in order to maintain tight, compact plants. Some dwarf selections do not require pruning, but most do benefit. Never prune back into 2-year-old wood or older, as the plants will not produce any new buds at the cut point.
