Product information "Alpine totara"
Podocarpus nivalis is an evergreen shrub that reaches a height of 3 m. It has dark green needles and pink new growth. The flowers are dioecious, which means that the individual flowers are either male or female and only one sex is found on any one plant. The red fruit on the female plants are popular with birds. This conifer is suitable for a range of well-drained soils. It is particularly hardy and low growing. It can grow in semi-shade or no shade and is susceptible to Phytophthora if planted in a wet location. This shrub can be used as a filler; it is ideal for growing over walls or in a rockery. It is also suitable as a potted plant and contrasts well with native grasses.
