Product information "Dwarf Balsam Fir 'Piccolo'"

The dwarf balsam fir 'Piccolo' grows naturally very slowly and it is thick and round. You will never have space problems with this dwarf fir. After ten years it reaches a height and width of 30 to 40 cm, and at a high age it reaches a maximum of 60 cm. Pruning is therefore superfluous.
Beautiful and evergreen

The attractive thing about this dwarf fir is its shiny, dark green needles, which also have an aromatic fragrance. Abies balsamea 'Piccolo' is extremely frost hardy and therefore also recommended for rough locations. It prefers slightly acidic to neutral soils. Slightly calcareous soils are tolerated by the dwarf fir, but it does not like very alkaline soils at all. Even very hot, dry locations are not ideal. On the other hand, it is extremely tolerant to shade. For good growth the soil should be uniformly moist.
For beds and containers

With its compact growth, the dwarf balsam fir can be used in many ways. Its beautiful, green needles set green colour accents all year round. In addition, these slow-growing conifers with their high frost hardiness are ideal for planting in pots and containers. Since it grows both in the sun and in the shade and partial shade, the plant can easily be placed on balconies, terraces, in entrance areas and courtyards. Please water regularly!
