Product information "Noble Fir"

The needles of the noble fir are really magnificent: they are long, stand very close together and have a bright, silvery blue colour. An additional adornment is the large cones – in the beginning they are green and later turn reddish brown. With a length of up to 25 cm, this fir forms the largest cones of all kinds of firs.

Picturesque growth

In the beginning, this noble fir grows in width; as it ages it forms beautiful, picturesque trees. After ten years it reaches a height of about 100 cm and a width of 60 to 80 cm. As a young plant, it is also decorative for containers and pots and rock gardens. Later on, it should be given a little more space, as it can reach a height of 10 to 15 m. Noble firs get more beautiful and valuable over the years. They are the most durable of all firs and can live for up to 700 years.

The right place

Noble firs love acidic to neutral soils that have as much humus as possible. They are not the right choice for lime-rich sites. They thrive in sunny to partially shaded locations and are completely hardy. Since they naturally grow very beautiful and picturesque, pruning is normally not necessary. On the other hand, Abies procera 'Glauca' is quite tolerable to cutting and can be limited in size by regular pruning measures.
