Product information "Cherry Laurel 'Caucasica'"

Cherry laurel or laurel cherry?

There are two common names for Prunus laurocerasus. Actually, laurel cherry is the more appropriate, as this evergreen ornamental shrub is the same species as the sweet cherry (Prunus avium) and the sour cherry (Prunus cerasus). The bay laurel (Laurus nobilis) from the Mediterranean region, on the other hand, has no botanical interest in the cherry laurel. Here, the common name probably refers more to the evergreen, laurel-like foliage. We will just use both names.

A fast-growing hedge

The cherry laurel 'Caucasica' grows fast and has beautiful, evergreen foliage. That makes it – in combination with its excellent tolerance to pruning – an attractive and popular hedge plant. The leaves have a fresh green colour and they have a shiny surface. In addition, the white, sweet-scented flower umbels appear in May.

For almost all locations

Laurel cherry is not picky. It thrives in every garden soil and can cope with sun, partial shade or only shade. The only thing that it does not like very much are rough, unprotected locations where it is caught in the middle of east winds during the winter. Otherwise 'Caucasica' is a good choice for those who want to quickly have an opaque and evergreen hedge. The planting distance has proven to be 50 to 100 cm depending on the soil quality and patience level.
