Product information "Common Holly 'Alaska'"
Hollys are evergreen – which means they provide a good visual protection, even in the winter. The foliage of holly 'Alaska' impresses with its shiny surface and fresh green colour. As befits a common holly, the leaves are covered with spikes. In nature, the plant uses these thorns to prevent animals from eating their leaves.Bright fruits
The pea-sized, bright red fruits of Ilex 'Alaska' appear already in late summer and stay on the plant for a very long time. They develop from small, white flowers that open starting in May. The bright red colour of the berries makes a nice contrast to the green leaves – which allows holly to be a welcome spot of colour in the greyness of winter and it is also a popular Christmas decoration. The fruits are poisonous to humans, but are eaten by songbirds in late winter.
