Product information "Ceanothus, Californian Lilac 'Victoria'"

Ceanothus is also called Californian lilac, which refers to the origin of most Ceanothus species, which have their home on the west coast of the United States. Among the types of evergreen Ceanothus the 'Victoria' variety is the hardiest. Planted in a wind-sheltered place, such as a southern façade, it only needs winter protection during the first year, afterwards only in particularly rough winters. For this purpose, a thick foliage layer can be applied to the root area and the shoots can be covered with brushwood.
This evergreen variety has beautiful, dark foliage and magnificent, blue flowers in May to July. The flowers appear in balls at the tips of the shoots, reminiscent of lilac blossoms.
Ceanothus impressus 'Victoria' needs a sunny, sheltered area with a very well-drained soil; it does not tolerate waterlogging.

The ornamental shrub grows bushy up to 1.5 m high. It is suitable as a solitary plant or for containers; especially in a stony environment, the dark foliage and the blue flowers are very attractive. By shortening the shoots to 1/3 in the spring after the last frosts or directly after the bloom, the flowering is promoted. If the fades flowers are directly removed, the flowering period can be extended.
