Product information "Heavenly Bamboo, Sacred Bamboo 'Firepower'"

Although the common name suggests, the heavenly bamboo or sacred bamboo 'Firepower' has nothing in common with the other bamboos. Botanically it belongs to the Berberidaceae family. An annoying habit of some bamboos is thus fortunately not applicable to the heavenly bamboo: it does not spread via runners and a root barrier is thus also not necessary! The texture of the leaves is, however, less fine and they are not so elongated, even the wood does not have the shine that is typical of bamboo.
The white flowers appear in June, but heavenly bamboo is planted less on account of the flowers, but rather due to its leaves. The evergreen, elongated leaves have a red colour in autumn and they stay on the plant until the spring. Even the berries, which appear as early as September, remain on the plant throughout the winter. They should not be eaten.
This evergreen ornamental shrub grows about 50 cm high and has a compact habit. It tolerates pruning, also heavy pruning. It is well suited for area plantings as well as for containers, beds, as a solitary plant or group plantings.
Nandina domestica 'Fire Power' loves a sunny to partially shaded site with humus, acidic to slightly alkaline soil. The plant is hardy down to -10°C; if temperatures fall lower, then winter protection is advised.
