Product information "Creeping Ceanothus, Creeping Californian Lilac"

Due to its low growth habit, this creeping Ceanothus is particularly well suited for area plantings. The plants are only about 60 cm high, but about 90 cm wide. This ornamental shrub has beautiful, dark green foliage that remains on the plant even in the winter. During the flowering period from June to September, an area planting resembles a blue carpet; the plant shows its flowering splendour on countless blossoms. The Ceanothus species and varieties are also known as Californian lilacs, probably due to their rich flowering bouquet, which are composed of countless, smaller flowers and petals.
Many Ceanothus are originally from California, so they prefer mild and sheltered areas. They should be planted in a sunny, wind-sheltered location, e.g. on the south side of buildings. However, a protected site in the first year and winter protection, in particularly cold winters, should not be omitted. A thick layer of foliage can be distributed on the ground, but the shoots can be covered with brushwood, since they will be pruned, although it is not really necessary. The soil should be rather dry, as the plant does not tolerate waterlogging.
Ceanothus thyrsiflorus repens should be cut back to 20 cm in the spring in order to guarantee good growth in the next year.
