Product information "Common Broom 'Boskoop Ruby'"

This beautiful species of broom convinces above all by its purple flowers! These appear from May to June and cover the entire length of the shoots. The small flowers give off a bitter fragrance and attract bees and butterflies. The leaves are scarcely distinguishable among the many flowers and the broom 'Boskoop Ruby' loses the leaves soon after flowering. This property has given the plant its name, as formerly the leafless branches were used as brooms. With a height and width of 1.5 m there are an abundance of flowers.

Poor locations are not a problem
Like all brooms, the variety 'Boskoop Ruby' is a sun worshiper and should be full sun; dryness is well tolerated and the deep roots supply the plant with water well. The period of dryness should not last longer than two weeks. Cytisus scoparius 'Boskoop Ruby' likes to have a sour, poor and sandy location, while nodular bacteria in the roots absorb atmospheric nitrogen from the air and fix it in the soil; this broom fertilises itself, so to speak! For example, Cytisus scoparius 'Boskoop Ruby' is ideal for extreme locations and can be planted individually and in groups. Keep an eye out for spreading growth via runners and seeds. However, if the plant should be pruned as recommended after flowering, the seed formation will be reduced. In cold areas, winter protection is advised; however should parts of the plant freeze back it will strongly sprout again.
