Product information "Judas Tree"

Cercis siliquastrum is a bushy deciduous shrub or small tree that can reach a height of 6-10 m. Commonly known as the Judas tree or love tree, this plant has a prolific display of purple-pink flowers that appear in April/May, even before the heart-shaped leaves start to emerge. The flowers are produced on year-old or older growth; they are edible and have a sweet-acid taste. Its leaves turn golden yellow in autumn, followed by flattened, deep purple pods that hang vertically. The foliage is bluish green; the underside of the leaves is somewhat lighter. Judas tree likes sandy and well-drained loamy soils; it is a rather chalk-loving plant, however it tolerates weakly acidic soils. It can also be grown in semi-shade or no shade.
