Product information "Dwarf Oregon Grape 'Apollo'"

The dwarf Oregon grape 'Apollo' grows smaller and more compact than the common Oregon grape, however it forms larger flowers and there are also numerous insects that enjoy the plant. The flowering period is from April to May and the flowers have a pleasant smell. Afterwards, dark blue fruits appear; these should be eaten raw only in small quantities, otherwise they are suitable for boiling or for the production of fruit wine. In autumn and during the winter, this evergreen plant is adorned in reddish brown foliage. The leaves are also bronze when they begin to sprout. This 80 cm high ornamental shrub is unpretentious and in a semi-shady to shaded site planted in sandy-humus soil, it tolerates root pressure very well. Even birches can be underplanted with the dwarf Oregon grape. Otherwise, the dwarf Oregon grape 'Apollo' is suitable for group plantings, for area plantings, as a low hedge or as a border and for containers.
Mahonia aquifolium 'Apollo' has to be cut or rejuvenated if the plant grows too large. It also tolerates a strong cut to 50 cm.
Mahonia aquifolium 'Apollo' has a great potential for spreading due to its above-ground runners, which should be removed regularly.
