Product information "Ornamental Apple 'Hillieri'"

Since the pink flowers with the white colouring appear only at the end of May, this variety extends the apple blossom. The rich flowering makes Malus 'Hillieri' one of the best ornamental apples.
Late, but lavish flowering

The ornamental apple 'Hillieri' convinces with its very beautiful and exuberant flowers, which appear after most other ornamental apples at the end of May. Due to the late flowering period, there is no frost hazard for the flowers and the fruits can develop ideally. The flowers are pink with white stripes. Some flowers are filled, which means they have a second circle of smaller petals. The individual flowers are relatively large with a diameter of about 3 cm. Due to the richness of the flowers the shoots of this ornamental apple are for forcing in the vase. For this purpose, shoots with as many flower buds as possible (the flower buds are spherical in shape) can be cut in late winter. In warm water, the branches blossom already after a short time. In the past, apple cuttings were often cut and brought to the vase, so a conclusion about possible winter damage could be drawn on the flowers. In the case of alternating varieties, i.e. varieties which have very different yields from year to year, the expected yield can also be estimated.
 An elegant appearance

From the pink flowers are developed small (2cm) yellow/orange, globular fruit on long fruit stems. Unfortunately, the fruit does not stick very long to the tree. The leaves of the variety 'Hillieri' are dark green and sit on dark red leaves, a very beautiful appearance. Also the overhanging growth of this large shrub is very picturesque. The ornamental apple 'Hillieri' is one of the most beautiful flowering apples with the densely populated, overhanging shoots. Even before flowering, the pink flower buds appear very ornamental. Since 'Hillieri' is a late-blooming variety, the apple blossom can be extended in the garden by the use of Malus 'Hillieri'.
One of the best ornamental apple varieties

Planted in a sunny or partially shaded location in normal garden soil, this plant will develop wonderfully. By pruning in early spring (late February), after the last fruits have fallen off, this ornamental apple can be regularly rejuvenated. Due to the extraordinarily beautiful appearance during its flowering period, Malus 'Hillieri' is very suitable as a solitary plant, but can also be planted in groups.
