Product information "Ornamental Apple 'Tina'"

Ornamental Apple 'Tina'

Malus sargentii 'Tina'

The ornamental apple 'Tina' blooms in May; the white flowers bloom from numerous, red-coloured buds and they exude a pleasant fragrance. Later, small, green pea-sized, red apples appear on a long reddish stems. The fruits keep until the winter and can also tolerate slightly lower temperatures. The branches with the small fruits are ideal for autumn or Christmas decorations. In autumn, the deciduous foliage changes to a golden yellow autumn colour. Malus 'Tina' is a dwarf form of Malus sargentii, which grows up to 3 m high in the original form. The 'Tina' variety, however, is only 2 m high and 1.5 m wide and is therefore also suitable for small gardens. Is this still too big for your garden? Then don’t worry: we can also offer the variety 'Tina' as a low-growing variant, which is then only about 1.5 m high and 1 m wide. This ornamental apple forms overhanging or horizontal shoots and grows broad and bush. It is one of the best dwarf ornamental shrubs due to the fact that the flowers appear in numerous amounts.
Like most ornamental apples, Malus sargentii 'Tina' also needs a sunny to partially shady spot. This variety is very robust, frost hardy and has little susceptibility to scab. Pruning is well tolerated and can be carried out in late winter, around the end of February. It is best to remove the oldest shoots in order to reveal the crown.
Due to the low growth capacity, the dwarf ornamental apple can be kept on terraces in small gardens and even in pots. The pot should have a volume of at least 50 litres. This variety is also suitable as a solitary shrub or for small groups due to its lush bloom, the beautiful autumn colouring and the ornamental fruits.
