Product information "Rock Rose 'Paul Pècherat'"

Cistus x verguinii 'Paul Pècherat' blooms from May to June, when the plant is full of white flowers with showy purple spots in the center of the flower and beguiles the visitors with its sweet scent.
Cistus - a Mediterranean plant for our gardens
The rock roses are something very special for the home garden and not very well known to us. In the United States and the Mediterranean areas of Europe these plants are more common. But also in England they are very common thanks to the exploratory garden passion of the English and thanks to the mild climate.
Cistus flowers
Cistus flowers are something special. For example, Cistus 'Paul Pècherat' has white petals and on each of the five petals there is a large, deep red, almost purple spot. This together with the bright yellow anthers in the middle is a beautiful sight. In addition, the abundance of flowers in May and June is unsurpassed. And what would a rose be without a fragrance – but actually Cistus has nothing to do with the traditional roses?! The scent of Cistus 'Paul Pècherat' is pleasantly sweet, whereby in addition to the flowers mainly the leaves and shoots are responsible with their fine and resin excretory hair glands.
Requires a dry location
Cistus x verguinii 'Paul Pècherat' needs a dry location, so this plant is probably more common in dry areas than ours. In addition to a dry location, which refers to both the soil moisture and the humidity, a sunny or partially shaded site is desired. In addition, the soil should be rather chalky and not heavy. On heavy soils, chlorosis often shows up, and winter hardiness is best on dry and gritty, sandy soils. Rock roses will then tolerate temperatures down to -12°C to -15°C. At lower temperatures, the root area should be generously covered with straw or leaves and the above-ground part should be wrapped in protective foil or protected with pine brushwood. Under these conditions, Cistus 'Paul Pècherat' develops into a 1 m high and broad shrub that grows regularly and conically.
Uses for Cistus 'Paul Pècherat'
Cistus 'Paul Pècherat' can be used in many ways; in small groups or in shrub beds, the plant can show its best side. Even at the edge of a large woody planting, the plant grows easily and can compete well against root competition. Thanks to its dense growth, Cistus x verguinii 'Paul Pècherat' destroys weeds efficiently; substances are also released into the soil, which act as an inhibitor of weeds. Cistus are cut in mild regions and in the south after flowering; slight pinching helps to keep the plant in shape and compact. In more northern regions, Cistus should be cut after the frosts in the spring; dried and dead, sometimes frozen shoots should be removed. The plant can be easily cut into shape and very old and non-flowering shoots can also be removed. However, pruning into the old wood should usually be avoided.
