Product information "Rock Rose 'Sunset'"

Cistus x pulverulentus 'Sunset' produces bright pink flowers from June to July. Cistus are unfortunately too little known, but hopefully that will change in the near future because the plants have a lot to offer. With its bright colours, Cistus 'Sunset' enchants your garden and gives it a southern flair.

The flowers of Cistus x pulverulentus 'Sunset'
The flowers of Cistus 'Sunset' are a real eye-catcher! The dark pink colour shines from afar, which is also connected to the bright yellow centre. These two colours together are reminiscent of a kitschy-romantic yet beautiful sunset. The flowers are relatively large; they are about 5 cm in diameter and have five delicate petals. Although the individual flowers last only a short time – one to two days – a wealth of pink beauties is formed. During the flowering period from June to July and sometimes longer, the plant is constantly filled with flowers, which also attracts many butterflies. In the winter, the evergreen leaves are decorative.

Use as a ground cover
Cistus x pulverulentus 'Sunset' grows more in width than in height: at a final height of 90 cm, the plant is about 1.5 m wide and is therefore suitable as a beautiful ground cover. Please plant at a distance of 75 cm to 1 m.

Tolerant to salt and heat
The plant does not have many demands, but these are very important: the soil must not be heavy and wet and is ideally slightly calcareous as well as rather low in nutrients. So if you have heavy soil in your garden, you have to mix plenty of sand or gravel into the soil for your southern guests. Also when watering you can confidently hold back, as Cistus x pulverulentus 'Sunset' is very drought tolerant. The rock rose 'Sunset' is also against resistant the input of salt and is therefore ideal for planting of roadsides in inner cities, or in the garden towards the street, since there are often larger amounts of salt deposited there in the winter. Temperatures down to -12°C are tolerated in the winter; at lower temperatures, the plant must be protected by a thick layer of foliage or straw. Pruning the rock rose takes place in our latitudes in the spring after the danger of frost; the rock rose should be slightly cut into shape and old or dried shoots should be removed. If possible, you should not prune into the old wood, as this is usually reluctant to sprout again.

Versatile use
Due to its high tolerance to extreme external influences, which only a few other plants can tolerate (heat, drought and salt infiltration), Cistus 'Sunset' has a wide range of uses. It can be used well in coastal gardens and rockeries. Even in the city centre and at the edges of the road, this plant develops magnificently.
