Can it be grown in a container? (Barbara Yau)

Mine is potted in a 12" wide and 18" plastic pot and am wondering if it'll be okay for this. It was bought last year in a 3l pot that was 2' tall and about 10 branches from a low trunk. Currently, its in half-leaf.
