Product information "Light Yellow Witch Hazel 'Primavera'"

The delicate, pale yellow flowers of Hamamelis intermedia 'Primavera' defy winter starting in mid-February.

As early as mid-February, the flowers of the light yellow witch hazel appear; the filigree petals are thread-shaped and bend strongly outwards. In autumn, this witch hazel again transforms your garden into a magnificent sea of colours, when the yellowish autumn colour appears.

Frost resistant flowers

Have you had enough of winter soon after the holidays? Do you miss the colour in your garden, especially during the dark season? The solution is quite simple! Plant witch hazel! The 'Primavera' variety is already flowers in mid-February; when most plants are still deep in their winter sleep, the first flowers appear. The pale yellow, filigree flowers appear as if by magic from the inconspicuous flower buds. The petals of the witch hazel are thread-shaped and very fine; in the middle of the flower they have a bright red colour, which intensifies the colour effect. If it is cold during the flowering season, no problem, the plant itself tolerates temperatures down to -25°C, and the flowers will recover easily from frosts down to -10°C. In warm weather, the flowers give off a pleasant fragrance.

Also a joy in autumn

The summer green leaves appear after the flowering. In the summer, the plant may seem a bit simple or inconspicuous, but at the latest in autumn you can again enjoy a colour spectacle. This is when a bright, yellowish autumn colour appears.

The light yellow witch hazel 'Primavera' grows up to 3 m high and 2 m wide; it grows upright and slightly branched. The growth can be described as somewhat sparse.

Pruning is not necessary

Often one expects from such a blossoming garden beauty that it is somewhat complicated, somewhat diva-like. However, this is not the case with Hamamelis intermedia 'Primavera'. A sunny or partially shaded site with permeable, nutritious soil is all that a witch hazel wants. If one then does not use a hose or clippers, then this flat-rooted witch hazel is a real beauty. Why can’t I use my clippers on this plant? The natural habit of this witch hazel is very slow and loose. In addition, new shoots are formed very easily on the old wood, and large wounds heal slowly. If you do not want to do without pruning, then you should be satisfied with very slight trimming!

Location in the garden and growing in pots

Due to the unusual time of flowering, the light yellow witch hazel 'Primavera' should be planted in the garden where it can be seen from inside. It is also possible to use it as a potted plant with a pot of sufficient size; however the potted plant needs protection in the winter.
