Product information "Mountain plum pine"
Podocarpus lawrencei is a medium to large spreading shrub with arching branches that create a rounded form. The thick, dark green leaves are narrow and about 1.5 cm long. Unusually, for a conifer, the sexes are on different plants. The cones on the male plants have an attractive pinkish purple colour. The reproductive structure on the female plant does not resemble cones. When ripe, it develops into a bright red, berry-like structure, above which a green seed is attached.Commonly known as mountain plum pine, this evergreen shrub is frost hardy and grows best in full sun. Regular watering and light pruning help give the plant a desired shape and encourage it to grow at a faster rate. This compact, slow growing conifer is perfect for smaller gardens. It also thrives in containers. It can also be used as a specimen plant or as a groundcover in rockeries and is very suitable for bonsai work.
