Product information "Common Holly 'Silver Queen'"

The foliage of holly 'Silver Queen' attracts everyone's attention: it is shiny green and has a wide, white edge. The elegant, evergreen leaves are studded with small spikes. In addition, the very decorative, orange-red fruits appear starting in September. They are pea-sized and decorate the plant until well into the winter. The fruit-bearing branches are thus beautiful in vases and they also make a great Christmas decoration.

Beautiful growth

The holly 'Silver Queen' grows evenly and forms regular cones that are 2 to 4 m high. This plant grows relatively slowly and is very tolerant to pruning, making it suitable for smaller gardens. The dense branches provide songbirds with hiding places and nesting sites. The pea-sized, bright red fruits also serve as winter food – however for humans they are poisonous.

Protected location

This holly is slightly more sensitive to frost than the green-leaved varieties and should therefore be planted in a sheltered place. In cold winters, brushwood or a straw mat can provide winter protection. This variety is not recommended for extremely rough locations. A partially shaded garden area with humus, not too dry soil is preferred. Ilex aquifolium 'Silver Queen' also looks very decorative in planters. In mild regions, overwintering in a container is not a problem, and in harsh environments, it is better to overwinter the plants in a sheltered location.
