Product information "Evergreen Privet"
Ligustrum vulgare is a bushy shrub with dull green, lance-shaped leaves. Also called wild privet and sometimes known as common privet or European privet, it has the typical Ligustrum characteristics; it is a evergreen shrub and does not lose all of its leaves as winter approaches. It is fast growing and reaches a height of 3-4 m.It is particularly tolerant to pruning and can therefore be used as a hedge plant and maintained at a desired height. In the summer, its terminal panicles of small, white, unpleasantly scented flowers attract butterflies and in late summer they turn to small, black berries.
Privet thrives in poor soil and is easily grown in full sun to part shade. The fruit clusters are considered to be the best ornamental feature of this species. Compared to Ligustrum ovalifolium, the leaves are pointer. The plants will naturalise by self-seeding in optimum growing conditions; they may form thickets in areas where the growth is not controlled.
- Available February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November
