Product information "Purpus Honeysuckle"

The main flowering period of the purpus honeysuckle is in February and March. But often, some of the delicate, cream white flowers appear as early as December. In addition to their filigree appearance they charm us with their intense fragrance, which is a very special treasure in the middle of the winter.

Bushy growth

Lonicera purpusii is a reliably hardy, summer-green flowering shrub. It grows broad, bushy and reaches a height of up to 2 m. Purpus honeysuckle prefers partial shade, where it can be individually planted or combined, for example, with different types of viburnum to create a mixed flowering hedge. If it is planted near the house, you can enjoy the intense fragrance of the flowers particularly intensely. Or you can occasionally cut a branch and put it in a vase – that's no problem, as this flowering shrub is very tolerant to cutting.

Beautiful and easy to maintain

Despite its delicate flowers, purpus honeysuckle is an unpretentious and robust woody plant. It thrives in every normal garden soil and needs no special care. The winter flowers are also ideal for natural gardens: the early flowers are the first source of food for bees and bumblebees and the red berries are often eaten by birds. For us humans, however, the pea-sized fruits are poisonous. Incidentally, this beautiful honeysuckle was created at the Botanical Garden in Darmstadt, Germany at the beginning of the 20th century. It is a cross between two different honeysuckle species (Lonicera fragrantissima and Lonicera standishii).
