Product information "Box-leaved Holly Buchserli®"

Yes, we cannot help it: we come from Buchs, St. Gallen, in the beautiful St. Gallen Rhine Valley, where the Rhine is still mostly clean and clear. But like everywhere, boxwood gardeners are suffering due to the leaftier moth and box blight. What could be more natural than to look for a replacement product amongst the Ilex crenata and then give it the right name: Buchserli, the dainty non-boxwood from Buchs.
Size/distance: For a compact hedge with a height of 30 cm and a width of 20-30cm, Buchserli® should be planted at a distance of 15-20 cm; for a higher hedge, the distance can also be selected somewhat greater. A Buchserli® hedge can grow 30-150 cm high and 20-50 cm wide.
Health: Buchserli® is neither susceptible to the leaftier moth nor box blight and it is generally very healthy.
Pruning: When growing hedges, especially for small, formal hedges, it is necessary to prune 2-3 times. Once at the end of May, after the first growth, then again in July and possibly again in late August, if the shoots have grown strongly again.
Soil: Buchersli® prefers slightly acidic soil; in a very calcareous soil significantly above pH 7, it is useful to mix in a slightly acidic soil into the planting hole when planting.
Fertilisation: Especially with a neutral to alkaline soil, the use of acidic acting Rhododendron fertiliser is advisable, 30 - 40 g per running metre.
  • Available February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November
  • Use beds/borders, for containers, as a hedge
  • Hardiness hardy
  • Soil moderately heavy, light, slightly alkaline, neutral, slightly acidic
  • Location partial shade, full sun
  • Leaf Colour green
