Product information "Christmas Berry 'Red Robin'"

The evergreen Christmas berry 'Red Robin' has, like the dwarf Christmas berry 'Little Red Robin', red leaves as it buds, which later turn to a dark green, shiny colour. The flowers appear in May to June and are white. They later from red fruits, which provide beautiful winter decoration.
In a sunny to partially shaded site planted in humus, permeable soil, this ornamental plant is relatively easy to maintain. It is hardy, but in cold winters it is possible that the tips freeze back. They should then be cut back in the spring, after the last frosts. In principle, pruning is not necessary, but if the plant is used as a hedge, pruning can be done after the flowering or in the spring, the plants can be cut with the hedge trimmer.
Often this question arises: what to do with an old, too high hedge, which has not been cut for years? Well, cutting into the old wood is not a problem in itself, but rather disturbs the appearace for the first 1-2 years. If a Christmas berry hedge is not cut for a longer time, the inside will get bare because there is too little light. If you then cut strongly, you see many bald spots. These are not pretty to look at, but they will soon be overgrown. If you have more patience (or would not like to have a bare hedge for two years), then you should gradually rejuvenate that plant, which means annually removing the upper, old shoots and thinning out the internal ones. The development of new shoots is stimulated by the light and the pruning measures. This way the plant can be pruned step by step. But it is best, of course, if the hedge is not neglected at all, and is pruned annually starting in the second year after planting.
In contrast to 'Little Red Robin', this variety grows higher, up to 2.5 m, making it suitable as an evergreen privacy screen or as a hedge. 1-2 plants per metre can be planted. Photinia fraseri 'Red Robin' can also be used as a solitary or group planting or in containers.
